About us

Derman for the well-being of the Kurdish and Turkish Speaking Communities was set up in 1992 by members of the Turkish and Kurdish Communities. It was formed The Health Advocacy and Counselling Services for Kurdish and Turkish Speaking Communities. Derman was one of the first advocacy services and one of the first to be based firmly within its client community.

Derman's objectives

Our main objectives are:

  • To enable access to health and social care services through advocacy services
  • To provide mental health support services to help individuals overcome their psychological problems
  • To support parents and families in transition to mainstream society and education system
  • To reduce family poverty with welfare advice and guidance
  • To promote healthy life style through targeted smoking cessation program

Derman's mission

Derman is growing and expanding into new areas of need. We are committed to the provision of health and social welfare and education services to Kurdish and Turkish speaking communities in Hackney. Our aim is to improve the quality of life for the community. We maintain this aim in two ways:

  • Providing direct health, education and social welfare services
  • Working in partnerships with other agencies to promote awareness of the needs of our service users.
