Smoking Cessation

Smoking Cessation service was set up in January 2000 and funded by East London and City Health Authority (ELCHA). This initially six months project was so successful that we have been running it since then.

We work with our partnership organisations in coordination with ELCHA to provide help and support to those people in Kurdish and Turkish speaking communities who wish to give up smoking.

We provide smoking cessation service in three levels of service including group meetings, counselling, Nicotin Replacement Therapy (NRT) in GP surgeries. We accept referrals from health advocates, GPs, other health professionals, agencies and individuals.

Aims of the project

  • To develop culturally appropriate quit smoking resources
  • To develop smoking cessation services to both individuals and groups
  • To identify innovative ways of encouraging smokers to quit
  • To advertise services in the community

Our smoking cessation adviser works at GP surgeries and health centres in Hackney. We also work at community centres to raise the awareness of the smoking cessation services.
