| Guideline
for counselling service
This
is an adult counselling service for Kurdish and Turkish speaking
clients or client of Turkish, Kurdish and Cypriot origin.
The
type of referrals which are accepted include: Psychosomatic problems,
depression, insomnia, suicidal thinking, anxiety, relationship problems,
bereavement, PTSD, isolation, psychosexual problems. Referrals are
not accepted for:
- Clients under 16 years old
- Clients who can not travel to surgery/health center
- Clients who are actively psychotic
- Clients with learning difficulties
- Drug and alcohol misuse as a primary problem
- Clients who have a violent behavior
- Clients who need long term intervention or psychiatric treatment
PROTOCOL
FOR REFERRALS:
1-The
client should be referred to the counsellor in writing by the GP
or the other members of the Primary Health Care Team (Health Visitor,
Midwife, Health Advocate etc.) and Locality Mental Health Teams.
2-Unless
it is emergency each client is sent an OPT-IN letter. Only clients
who respond to OPT-IN letter are sent an assessment appointment.
3-Client
will be assessed by the counsellor for appropriateness and emergency
cases are given priority and aimed to be seen within 2 weeks. However
routine cases depending on the waiting list will mostly be seen
within 13 weeks.
4-Following
the assessment sessions, the client is offered 6 or 12 sessions
for individual counselling, each session lasting 50 minutes.
5-If
the client does not attend 2 consecutive appointments, she/he will
be taken off the counselling list and the GP will be informed.
6-Both
after assessment and at the completion of counselling, following
agreement with the client, the counsellor will provide a brief feedback
to the GP.
7-Referrals
