Parenting Support

Parenting is one of the toughest job we face in our lifetime. It is voluntary, 24 hours job without annual leave or sick-leave so ever. Becoming a parent is just like beginning a new job with no training to deal with so many challenges. However, being a parent can be a lot easier with some support.

Bringing up children in a different culture with a language barrier and lack of information about education system makes parenting even tougher for Kurdish and Turkish speaking parents.

Initially a pilot joint work had been carried out with Hackney Parenting Project. In the light of this project results, the parenting support project was developed in January 2001, funded by Home Office Family Policy Unit.

This project involves setting up and running parenting groups, working on culturally appropriate parenting packages, providing support and advocacy for the individual parents and liaising with other agencies regarding the parenting issues for the Kurdish and Turkish Speaking Communities in Hackney.
