Iapt Talking Therapies

Derman’s a member of Psychological Therapies Alliance. This partnership delivery model between Homerton IAPT, Tavistock, East London Mental Health Trust, Mind and Bikur Cholim, which is part of the national IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) scheme. We are now working very closely with the NHS to deliver culturally specific psychological therapies to Turkish/ Kurdish speaking communities. The PTA offers one to one counselling and group therapies to clients which aimed to improve emotional wellbeing, re-validate their skills to recover, live independently, and to manage their mental and physical well-being.

Talk Enables Change. Counselling is a space to talk and think about your problems with someone skilled and interested in listening; a place to explore thoughts and feelings about yourself and your relationships with others.

What we offer?

We offer individual short-term (6 to 12 sessions) and culturally sensitive counselling in Turkish and also run Behavioural Activation Group Therapies.  Our Counselling services operate under a ‘no drugs and alcohol policy’ and have a framework for missed and cancelled sessions.

1:1 Therapy

As part IAPT services Derman offers a range of NICE-recommended therapies for depression and anxiety in line with a stepped-care model:

  •  Low-Intensity interventions (guided self-help, and group-based physical activity programmes)
  •  High-Intensity interventions: CBT, Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Brief Psychodynamic Therapy and Counselling for Depression

Group Therapies

Behavioural Activation Group Therapy is a psychological treatment developed for depression. The idea behind this form of therapy is that your life either consists of too much environmental punishment or too little environmental reinforcement. Behavioural Activation focuses on the present and attempts to make subtle changes to your lifestyle in order to lift the depression.

This is a free of charge adult (16 onwards) counselling service for Turkish speaking clients or clients of Turkish, Kurdish and Cypriot origin who reside and/or are registered with a GP in Hackney.

We accept referrals in writing, a letter or completing referral form, from GPs, other Primary Health Care professionals, Locality Mental Health Teams and other voluntary sector organisations or health professionals.
